An analysis of the Ministry of Health 24 hour updated reports in the last 14 days from the 4th to the 17th of December, shows 5 deaths recorded in the last 8 days.

The total number of deaths recorded within this last 14 day period was 20.

In the 6 days starting from the 4th -9th of December, 15 new deaths were recorded.

In the last 8 days from 10th - 17th of December 5 were recorded on the 11th, 12th, 16th and the 17th with none in the other 4 days.

New cases reported within the same 14 day period starting from the 4th of December, showed a total of 1,393 up to the 17th of December.

Of this total 812 were recorded in the first 6 days from 4th – 9th December compared to 581 in the last 8 days from 10th -17th of December.

All the statistics recorded marked drops both in fatalities added to the death toll and new cases recorded.

As of the 17th of December the total death toll stands at 75 with the total number of measles cases at 5,331.

National coverage for measles vaccination is up to 93 per cent of the eligible population.

The all out mass vaccination campaign is going for a 98 per cent target and the two weeks extension of the national state of emergency up to the 29 of December is hopeful of achieving the goal.

Most of the work is now concentrated on an aggressive mop up drive for the estimated 16,000 who are still unvaccinated.
